Speaking Quantum: Lost in Translation

In this Innotribe session, Professor Andrea Morello leads an exploration of how the limitations of human language shape, and often restrict, our understanding of quantum mechanics.

Remote quantum entanglement of nuclear qubits

UNSW quantum engineers have created quantum entanglement between two distant atoms in silicon using electrons as a bridge.

Quantum Error Detection Agency

A team of UNSW researchers has developed a new method to read out the quantum state of an atomic nucleus with minimal disturbance. Atomic nuclei can be used as building blocks for quantum computers. Some of their quantum states are used to flag the occurrence of errors during the computation, but the standard way of reading them out can introduce errors that did not exist otherwise. Here, the researchers show that these detection errors can be minimised by repeatedly probing the states that are thought to be empty.

Inside a Quantum Computer!

An in-depth look at the engineering inside a quantum computer, and also demonstrating the operational results live and how they are measured.

Transistors & The End of Moore's Law

How does a transistor work? And when will Moore's Law break down? Supported by TechNYou

Quantum operations with 99% fidelity – the key to practical quantum computers

For the first time in silicon, a team of engineers led by Andrea Morello at UNSW Sydney has demonstrated a three-qubit quantum processor in silicon where every operation – one-qubit logic, two-qubit logic, and qubit initialisation and measurement – is performed with better than 99% fidelity.

Schrödinger's cat is alive and means business

High-dimensional quantum systems are a valuable resource for quantum information processing. Powerful encodings include ‘Schrödinger cat’ states, superpositions of widely displaced coherent states, which also embody the challenge of quantum effects at the large scale. Researchers at UNSW Sydney have recently demonstrated the creation and manipulation of Schrödinger cat states using the spin-7/2 nucleus of a single antimony atom.
