Dr Jie ZhaoDr Jie Zhao

Dr Jie Zhao develops photonic technologies that combine continuous- and discrete-variable approaches to quantum information processing. Her research harnesses the complementary advantages of these approaches to generate and manipulate complex optical quantum states, enabling low-overhead quantum computing and quantum error correction for scalable quantum information processing.

At the Australian National University, Dr Zhao develops advanced photonic technologies, including world-leading squeezed-light sources and hybrid optical quantum systems. For QPI, she will contribute to integrated continuous-variable quantum computing, the generation and manipulation of encoded photonic states and new approaches to connecting quantum computing modules. Her research will explore high-bandwidth squeezed light, optical interconnect that coherently links separate quantum computing modules, efficient conversion between different optical quantum encodings, and precision measurements for characterising quantum computing devices.

Through QPI, Dr Zhao will work across theory, photonic experiments and device fabrication undertaken in collaboration with external partners to improve the performance and practicality of optical quantum computers. Her expertise will be central to developing resource-efficient photonic architectures and coherent quantum interconnects across heterogenous computing platforms.
