Dr. Miguel J. Carballido is an experimental condensed-matter physicist specialising in semiconductor spin qubits for quantum computing. He is a Senior Research Associate in the Fundamental Quantum Technologies Lab at UNSW Sydney, led by Scientia Professor Andrea Morello.
Miguel completed his PhD summa cum laude at the University of Basel in 2024, where his work on hole-spin qubits demonstrated an electrically tunable operating regime where peak coherence coincided with control rates above 100 MHz; enabled conditional two-qubit control above 1 Kelvin; and co-developed the first fully autonomous boot-up procedure for a spin qubit starting from a grounded device - a spin-qubit "bootloader".
Within QPI, he works on hybrid donor-dot device architectures, drawing on his expertise to develop new hardware, control and readout approaches for scalable quantum information processing with higher-dimensional spins in silicon.
