Dr Simon J. U. White is a Research Fellow in the Quantum Optics and Information Laboratory at Griffith University. He is passionate about exploring the bizarre reality of our quantum world, and does so using light. His research focuses on developing and demonstrating quantum phenomena and technologies using single- and multi-photon systems, with particular expertise in photonic quantum information, quantum state readout, integrated photonics, and ultrafast temporal encoding.

His PhD research investigated defect-based single-photon sources in solid-state materials, spanning source characterisation, materials science, and proof-of-principle applications in quantum information. At Griffith, he has established a new research direction in ultrafast temporal encoding and interference-based readout of photonic quantum states. Within QPI, Dr White will explore the intersection of multi-photon and high-dimensional quantum information experiments, fundamental quantum phenomena, and their scalability through integrated photonics.

Simon is an active member of the Australian Institute of Physics and serves on the Queensland Branch committee, contributing to physics outreach and engagement across the Queensland community.
