Erik is a PhD student in the group of Professor Andrea Morello, where he works on testing the limits of quantum gravity using a spin-mechanical device. He began his PhD in February 2026 after completing an M.Sc. in Physics, specialising in quantum technology, at RWTH Aachen University in Germany. During his master’s degree, he modelled and simulated high-dimensional nuclear spins in silicon-based quantum devices for quantum information applications.
As part of his PhD project, he will fabricate a spin-mechanical device in which a mechanical cantilever is coupled to a donor nuclear spin. Through this work, he hopes to explore how quantum systems can be used to investigate fundamental questions at the intersection of quantum mechanics and gravity.
