Professor Andrea Morello investigates how the spins of individual atoms can be used to store, protect and process quantum information. He has made pioneering contributions to silicon spin qubits, including the control and measurement of single electron and nuclear spins, multi-level quantum systems and new approaches to protecting quantum information from errors.
At UNSW Sydney, Professor Morello is Scientia Professor of Quantum Engineering and leads the Fundamental Quantum Technologies Laboratory. As Director of QPI, he provides scientific and strategic leadership across the Centre's research program, bringing together advances in high-performance qubits, resource-efficient quantum logic and integrated quantum architectures. His research within QPI will explore exceptionally coherent nuclear-spin systems, protected quantum encodings and scalable methods for connecting silicon qubits.
Professor Morello is a prominent advocate for quantum science and engineering. An ARC Laureate Fellow and Fellow of the American Physical Society, he is widely recognised for communicating complex quantum concepts to public audiences and for training the next generation of quantum researchers and engineers.
