Professor Andrew Doherty works across quantum control, error correction and device theory to understand how quantum computers can operate reliably at scale. His work connects fundamental quantum information science with the practical challenges of operating solid-state, photonic and hybrid quantum systems.
At the University of Sydney, Professor Doherty contributes broad theoretical expertise across all three QPI Research Pillars. As QPI Deputy Director for Research Excellence, he chairs the Research Excellence Committee and coordinates the Centre's scientific activities with its Pillar and Synergy Leads. His research will support the development of efficient fault-tolerant architectures, hardware-tailored error-correcting codes, noise characterisation methods and integrated quantum systems that combine different physical platforms.
Professor Doherty also brings significant experience connecting academic research with the international quantum industry, including previous service as Chief Technology Officer at PsiQuantum. As part of QPI, he will help ensure that the Centre's research remains ambitious, collaborative and aligned with the scientific breakthroughs required to enable useful quantum computers.
