Prof Jeffrey McCallumProf Jeffrey McCallum

Professor Jeffrey McCallum investigates how materials composition, fabrication and processing shape the performance of solid-state quantum devices. His work investigates how the composition and structure of semiconductor materials influence the coherence and performance of quantum systems.

At the University of Melbourne, Professor McCallum leads research in ion-beam materials engineering and semiconductor device fabrication. As part of QPI, he will contribute to the creation of ultra-pure silicon environments for spin qubits, including advanced isotope-enrichment techniques designed to suppress environmental noise and extend quantum coherence. He will also support the development of rare-earth-based microwave-to-optical transducers and integrated interfaces between different quantum hardware platforms.

Professor McCallum brings extensive experience in translating fundamental materials science into advanced device technologies. As part of QPI, he will help establish the high-quality materials and fabrication capabilities required for reliable, scalable and integrated quantum processors.
