Protecting fragile quantum information from errors is central to Professor Stephen Bartlett's research. His work seeks to understand how fragile quantum information can be protected, manipulated and scaled into reliable computational devices.
At the University of Sydney, Professor Bartlett leads major quantum research initiatives and serves as Director of Quantum Australia. As part of QPI, he contributes to the development of low-overhead quantum error-correcting codes, practical real-time decoders, hardware-aware benchmarking and efficient architectures for logical quantum computing. His research will help determine how improvements in physical qubits and connectivity can be translated into reliable operations with substantially lower hardware and energy requirements.
Professor Bartlett has extensive experience building and leading large national and international research collaborations. As part of QPI, he will help connect researchers, universities and industry partners, while supporting emerging scientists and ensuring that theoretical advances in quantum error correction can be tested on increasingly sophisticated quantum hardware.
