Professor Sven Rogge studies how spins, photons and their solid-state environments interact inside semiconductor nanostructures. His work contributes to the development of quantum devices that combine long-lived matter-based quantum states with optical interfaces.
At UNSW Sydney, Professor Rogge is Dean of Science and leads research in quantum electronic devices and spin-photon systems. In QPI, he will investigate solid-state quantum emitters, erbium ions in silicon, superconducting single-photon detectors and nanophotonic structures for generating and distributing quantum entanglement. This research will support the Centre's goal of developing reliable optical connections between quantum computing modules and integrating matter-based processors with photonic networks.
Professor Rogge brings substantial experience in research leadership, international collaboration and the development of multidisciplinary scientific programs. Through QPI, he will help connect fundamental materials research with device engineering, quantum integration and the training of researchers capable of working across traditional disciplinary boundaries.
